The Spanish consulate you submit to depends on where you live in Canada, and the four main consulates don't all operate the same way.
- Toronto (Ontario and Eastern Canada)Toronto handles the largest volume of Canadian Spain visa applications. Appointment booking is online. Current visa processing after document submission runs approximately 4–8 weeks, longer during January–April. Toronto is particularly strict about RCMP check freshness, typically requiring the check to have been issued within 3 months of the appointment date.
- Vancouver (British Columbia and Western Canada)Vancouver is known for the strict enforcement of the RCMP's check for freshness. Fingerprint-based checks are usually required within 3 months of the consulate appointment. Applicants should ensure apostilles for provincial documents are completed before scheduling their visa appointment.
- Calgary (Alberta)Calgary handles a smaller volume, which often translates into faster review of submitted documents. Provincial apostilles are still required, but turnaround tends to be slightly shorter than in Toronto or Vancouver.
- Montreal (Quebec and Francophone Applicants)If your documents are from Quebec and issued in French, Montreal often processes the initial review faster than other consulates because its staff is fluent and familiar with the Directeur de l'état civil document formats. The sworn Spanish translation is still required for final processing.
