New Zealand maintains three diplomatic offices in Canada. Understanding what each office does - and more importantly, what they do not do - prevents wasted trips and misunderstood expectations.

Important: NZ visa applications are not submitted at these offices. All Immigration New Zealand visa applications, for all visa types, are submitted online through immigration.govt.nz. The NZ High Commission and consulates in Canada do not accept visa applications, do not forward applications to INZ, and cannot influence processing times or decisions. Their primary purpose is consular services for New Zealand citizens in Canada, and bilateral trade and diplomatic functions.

The High Commission is the primary New Zealand diplomatic mission in Canada. It handles consular services for NZ citizens (emergency travel documents, notarial services, welfare assistance), bilateral government relations, and trade promotion. For Canadian applicants, it can provide general information about New Zealand and refer you to INZ for immigration enquiries - but it cannot accept or process visa applications.

The Vancouver consulate operates by appointment only for in-person services. Services available in-person are limited to certifying authentic copies of documents and witnessing statutory declarations for use under NZ law. Contact the consulate directly for fee information and to book an appointment. All other consular assistance is provided by telephone and email.

New Zealand also maintains an honorary consulate in Toronto. Honorary consulates provide limited consular assistance to NZ citizens in the Toronto region. They do not process visas or provide immigration advice.
